Hello friends, I want to invite you all to come out and see Die Csardasfurstin at the Reynolds Road Theater in Rockville Maryland. This wonderful operetta is wildly popular in Europe but has not yet made its way into the mainstream repertoire of the United States. Full of beautiful music, dancing, humor and romance, this operetta is certain to delight. I will be singing the role of Sylva, a proud and talented cabaret singer who has captured the love of a prince and the disdain of his family. The operetta will be sung in German with English subtitles and English dialogue. Information and tickets are found at http://www.belcantanti.com/.
I would like to share a little bit of the exciting happenings and performance activity this spring. I have recently been given the opportunity to sing in several wonderful galas held by the Maryland Lyric Opera Company to promote their premier performance of Cavalleria Rusticana and I Pagliacci this summer. If you can make it out to one I am sure you will be impressed by the wonderful music and obvious love of pure opera that drives the vision of the directors. I will be singing Nedda with Maryland Lyric on July 20th and 26th. Check out their website at http://www.marylandlyricopera.org/.
I also sang a recent concert at the Bulgarian Embassy which included a scene from La Traviata and a duet from Verdi's Il Trovatore with the wonderful baritone Norman Garrett of the Washington National Opera. We will be doing a reprise in a performance this weekend with the Partners for the Arts Anniversary Concert, More information can be found on their website http://partners4thearts.org/. Finally I will mention a wonderful opportunity I was given to sing at Carnegie Hall several weekends ago in the finals of New York Lyric Opera Company's National Voice Competition. I met several wonderful artists and placed third. For details on the competition you can look here http://www.newyorklyricopera.org/season.html#2014Winners. Thanks for reading! The summer is usually a light time for opera singers as most opera companies take June through August off. I am using the time to prepare for fall recitals and auditions. In the meantime my husband Michael and I are doing our first production together with Victorian Lyric Opera Company. The operetta is a rarely performed Gilbert and Sullivan called Utopia, Limited, I will be playing the role of Nekaya, and Michael Sir Bailey Barr. The performance dates are August 29 and 31.
Other things going on include a recital at my Alma Mater, Carson Newman University on September 19 and additional recitals in Spartanburg, SC and Asheville, NC, time and exact location currently undecided. Finally if anyone missed Die Fledermaus you will have an opportunity to catch it in early December here in the DC area. I cannot say enough about what a fun and wonderful opera Die Fledermaus is, and our modernized version makes it especially accessible and enjoyable to the general public. |
AuthorI will be using this blog to talk about upcoming performances, performances in progress, student achievements and also a subject I am very passionate about: bringing the beauty and drama of opera into the 21st century and the younger generations. Archives
