Soprano Merideth Marano has recently relocated from the Washington DC area to the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. While in DC she gained acclaim as a young artist performing leading roles with Maryland Lyric Opera, Bel Cantanti Opera, Victorian Lyric Opera Company and Singers’ Theatre of Washington.
The Washington Post called Merideth “certainly the standout, with an effortless high D”, Washington Life's reviewer reported that: “she sang with a radiance that floated with ease into the performance space”, Washington City Paper wrote: “Marano has dramatic vocal weight with a high register and a gift for coloratura” and from DC Metro Arts that: “she was a constant thrill throughout the evening, sparkling in her high notes and bringing a special poignancy and soulfulness to her low notes”.
During a brief time spent in Georgia with her husband, a Captain in the United States Army, Merideth was chosen for the prestigious honor of paid festival artist for the Savannah Voice Festival, and received one on one coaching with famed Baritone Sherrill Milnes as well as many other notable personalities in the opera world. She was a finalist in the Pro-Mozart Society competition and performed in many concerts to great success in the Savannah area.
Merideth’s well-rounded career spans from oratorio and concert performances to leading roles in opera. Recent roles include Donna Anna (Mozart), Juliette (Gounod), Sylva (Kalman), and Nedda (Leoncavallo) in Maryland, Roselinde (Strauss) in Washington DC, Suor Angelica (Puccini) in Rome, Italy, Laetitia (Menotti) in South Carolina, and Echo (Strauss) in Northern Virginia. She was the featured soprano soloist in Handel’s Messiah and Vivaldi’s Gloria, and has performed in several countries including Germany, Czech Republic, Jordan, the United States and Italy.
Merideth has successfully competed both nationally and internationally. She was chosen for a prestigious award in the Jakub Pustina International Vocal Competition in the Czech Republic and recently placed third in the New York Lyric Opera Theatre’s National Competition.
Merideth has pursued her opera studies in the United States, Italy, Germany and Austria. Coaching and masterclass experience includes work with Kristen Okerlund (of the Vienna State Opera), Montserrat Caballe (Zaragoza, Spain), Barbara Bonney (Salzburg, Austria), Sherrill Milnes (Savannah, Georgia) and long term study with Elizabeth Whitehouse in Nuremburg, Germany, Fabiana Bravo in Washington DC, Ann Jones in Tennessee and Rebecca Turner in South Carolina.
